Burton Kemp III passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2016, surrounded by loved ones and holding the hand of his loving wife. He was born in New Orleans on November 5, 1933 to Edgar Burton Kemp Jr. and Thelma Roy Kemp. He is a graduate of Jesuit High School and Louisiana State University earning his BS degree in Geology and a Masters in Geology from Tulane University. After graduation he worked in the oil and gas industry briefly before beginning a 30 year career with the Corps of Engineers retiring in 1992 as the District Geologist. During his time with the Corps he worked on many projects throughout the state and assisted the Corps after Hurricane Katrina participating in a critical review of some of the Corps investigative and design parameters. Following his retirement Pere went on to work for several engineering and consulting firms and served as an expert witness when needed. Pere was a member of several carnival and social organizations in New Orleans and Mississippi. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved anything to do with the water. Pere is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Kathleen Wolfe Kemp. He is also survived by four children - E. Burton Kemp IV (Beverly), Kathleen K. Gannon, Gretchen Ainsworth Kemp and Priscilla K. Morse (Barry); six grandchildren – E. Burton Kemp V, Stephanie Kemp DeForrest (George), Christopher T. Gannon (Jacqueline), Kathleen Gannon Ledsome (Keith), Mallory Morse Goorley (Elliot) and Matthew C. Morse; four great grandchildren – Georgie DeForest, Piper Quinn Gannon, Elliot Campbell and Ellis Charles Goorley; two step-great grandchildren - Brooks and Jackson Ledsome; three siblings – Patsy McAdam (Mike), Donald Kemp (Francoise) and Kathy Fontenot (Byron); one first cousin – Carolyn Keller (Lionel). Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial mass at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary St. Madisonville, LA 70447. A time of visitation will begin at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made to any Coastal Restoration Foundation. =================== =
