He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Barbara Manteris McLawhorn, his daughter, Ali McLawhorn Meyer, daughter, Elizabeth McLawhorn Judd, son, Ian Bennett McLawhorn, his most precious new granddaughter, Reese McCall Judd, and his sons by marriage, Jared P. Penton and J. Gregory whom he loved and was proud to call his “sons;” his half-brother, Ron E. Sandlin and half-sister, Connie Sandlin Alphin. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Michael J. Manteris (Mona) and Gregory J. Manteris (Evelyn), cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the loving grandparents who had raised him from birth, Bennett R. Rouse and Frances “Leona” Rouse, his father, Donald W. McLawhorn, his much-loved mother, Rebie L. Rouse, and his three aunts, Frances Rouse Moore, Peggy Rouse Sandlin, and B. Jean Rouse. Bennett was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a proud employee of the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care Services at the time of his death. Bennett was a beloved and faithful child of God. His kind heart, ability to forgive, strength, patience, and his friendly, humorous demeanor inspired family, friends, and strangers alike. He will be missed by all. Family members, friends and co-workers are invited to attend a brief military service and internment on Friday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 34888 Grantham College Road (I-12W Service Road), Slidell, LA US Army ===================
