Loving father of Elizabeth M. Lavender, James “Jim” Planchard, Jr. and Andrew M. Planchard and surrogate father of Teresa Shepler Vandiver, Michelle Shepler Pcheny and Jeff Shepler. Beloved son of the late Louis M. and May Walters Planchard. Brother of Marion Planchard Hillie and the late Bonnie May Planchard Rapier, Louis Mark Planchard, Margaret Planchard Chambless, Charles Perkins Planchard, Noel Roussel “Rusty” Planchard, Katherine Planchard Stewart, and Elise Ann Planchard Rand. Grandfather of John Lavender, Jessica Lavender, Ryan Planchard, Jamie Planchard, Sydnie Planchard, the late Joshua F. Planchard and surrogate grandfather of Lauren Vandiver, Tiffany Vandiver, Jayson Vandiver, Callie Shepler, Kayla Shepler, Justin Pcheny, Kyle Pcheny and Grant Pcheny. He is survived by his closest companion and the love of his life, Carolyn Kay Shepler. Don was a graduate of Loyola University and De La Salle High School in New Orleans, LA and he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. His life was marked by enthusiasm for sports and the great outdoors, a genuine love of people and a passion for cooking and enjoying good food. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM with visitation on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon.
