Joyce passed quietly, her two sons by her side, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. From her birth in New Orleans on September 21, 1927 to her death, she nourished people around her with love, faith, and a sweet smile that seemed to never fade. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mildred Michel, a brother, “LD” Michel, and her daughter, Cynthia Ann Catalano, as well as her beloved husband, Thomas V. Ashbrook. Joyce and Tom shared a love for golf and all things music. They were able to combine these hobbies with a passion for travel and together enjoyed a rich and rewarding life. When Joyce could no longer participate in golf and tennis, her love for bridge and the ease with which she made new friends kept her active. Joyce will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend with a warm heart and welcoming smile. Left to honor her memory are Joyce’s two sons, Peter Catalano and Michael Ashbrook; step-son, Tom Ashbrook; step-daughter Terry Ann Ashbrook Moore; her four grandchildren, Lauren Catalano, Anthony Catalano, Jeffery Catalano and Lisa Ashbrook; five great-grandchildren, Grace, Olivia, Ava, and Riley Catalano, and Sam Mewborn; a sister, Jean Michel Mouton and a cousin Lois Anzel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10:00 AM until service time. Following the service, the family will greet friends in the second floor reception center of The Trace, 19432 Crawford Rd., Covington, LA. Joyce’s sons, Pete and Mike, would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at The Trace, and especially Lisa Holloway and Shirae Brister for their attentiveness and loving care; and their aunts, Jean and Lois, for the comfort and companionship that were such a blessing to Joyce. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joyce’s name to Special Olympics at specialolympics.org. ===================
