She was 71 years old. Suzanne will be remembered as a truly gracious lady, beautiful both inside and out. Her smile, her generous heart, strong faith and her kind, gentle reassuring way with words drew people from all walks of life to her. She displayed an eternally optimistic outlook that was contagious and inspired others. Even though for more than 3 years she was battling a rare “unknown primary” cancer that she knew was terminal, she viewed every challenge as an opportunity and a blessing – to meet new people, to care for others, to counsel those in need, and to make a positive difference in the lives of those around her. Her competitive nature led her to volunteer for painful clinical trials, knowing that, if they could not cure or retard her cancer, the results of trials may, someday, help others. A devoted wife and mother, she raised her two sons to “always be good and be kind”. Suzanne was born on October 23, 1944 in Fort Worth, TX to Earline Grant and the late Lewis Douglas Wall, Jr. Growing up, she was an accomplished pianist and an avid equestrian. She graduated from Paschal High School in 1962, and then received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1967. In 1970, Suzanne married Benjamin Hurd Motion, at the University Christian Church in Ft Worth, TX. With her husband, Suzanne moved to New Orleans and then to Covington, at first continuing as a Jr. High and elementary school teacher. Then she embarked on an active career in volunteer work with such organizations as the local public TV station, the Junior Opera Guild, the Junior Service League and Junior League of Greater Covington, the Tree Alliance, and the 4th Ward Recreation Association. She was a voting commissioner, Sunday School and Childrens’ Church teacher, a sailing enthusiast, teacher’s assistant in the public schools and a music, soccer and sailing mom. A longtime member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, she served as a Stephen’s Minister for nearly 7 years. Suzanne is survived by her husband, Benjamin Motion; sons Robert and Lewis Motion; siblings Lewis Wall III and Victoria Prescott; mother Earline Prescott; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Suzanne was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Douglas Wall, Jr., and her brother, Wesley T. Prescott. A celebration of Suzanne’s life is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 25th, with visitations starting at 3 pm at St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Mandeville. Rev. Carol Richardson will officiate the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to any of the following: Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center (https://www.marybird.org/stph/make-a- difference-stph/ways-to-give), MD Anderson Cancer Center (https://gifts.mdanderson.org), The United Methodist Children’s Home (http://donate.lmch.org), or University Christian Church of Ft Worth, TX (www.universitychristian.org/about- ucc/business-office/).
