Saltzmann, Sr. passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the age of 94. He was the beloved husband of the late Alma Sue Groomer Saltzmann. Mr. Saltzmann was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and resided in Covington, Louisiana for the past eleven years. Louis and his sister, Louise, were the first set of twins born in Milneburg. He often shared his memories of growing up in Milneburg, working on the family dairy farm, and pitching baseball. Louis always had a joke to tell to anyone he would meet. Survivors include two sons: Louis H. Saltzmann, Jr. (Yvonne) of Metairie, LA and Daniel J. Saltzmann of Slidell, LA and two daughters: Janice S. Hill of Vancleave, MS and Sharon S. Hynes (Al) of Covington, LA; seven grandchildren: Eileen Keller, Christina H. Lara, Janell H. Awong, Stephen M. Saltzmann, Stephanie M. Saltzmann, Austin M. Hynes and Abbey E. Hynes. Mr. Saltzmann is also survived by five great grandchildren. Louis was preceded in death by his parents Julia Spiehler Saltzmann and George Saltzmann, his daughter Susan S. Boyne, and his twin sister Louise Saltzmann Chambers. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Daniel K. Jens and Dr. Leonardo Orejarena and staff of Ochsner Clinic, and the wonderful staff of Community Care Hospice for all of their loving care of Louis. His daughter Sharon wishes to convey her sincere appreciation to their cousin, Alton D’Herete, for his endless love and affection of Louis. Family, friends, and the residents and staff of the Village in the Oaks are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Road in Covington, LA on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM until service time. The Reverend Charles Benoit will be officiating.
