She was 76 years old. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mark M. Mulkey Sr. and Estelle Josepha Gentille Mulkey, and her brothers Mark M. Mulkey, Jr. and Michael M. Mulkey. Marilyn was also preceded in death by her beloved Boston Terrier, Checkers. Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband and caregiver, Robert J. Bush, daughter Cindy Bush Tiek and husband Stephen Tiek, son Robert M. Bush and wife Kristi Bush, and daughter Stacey Bush Morales and husband Zack Morales. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Patrick Tiek, Bridget Tiek Dupuis, Jess Stevens, Bradley Bush, Keyton Bush, Adam Morales, Austin Morales, Andrew Morales and one great grandchild, Harper Stevens. Marilyn was born in New Orleans at Touro Infirmary on August 8, 1939. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1958 and briefly attended LSU. After high school, Marilyn worked for Southern Bell from 1959 to 1960 where she met her future husband, Robert. They married Jan. 7, 1961 and celebrated 55 years of marriage. Marilyn was a beautiful character that loved to laugh and loved her family more than anything else. She was affectionately known as Meemaw, Bush or Mer. She had a keen sense of humor, a colorful vocabulary and loved to offer unfiltered commentary to family, friends and strangers alike. You always knew where you stood with Marilyn because her beautiful green eyes would convey her sentiments even if her words did not. She loved to play games and was always the first one to get on the floor to play with the grandkids. For her, there was nothing better than getting the family together to play a game of cards. Marilyn was an active member of her church and community over the years and formed lasting friendships in her many endeavors. She was a member of the first Parish Council at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville and after moving to Covington, Marilyn continued to be active with the K.C. Ladies Auxiliary at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Abita Springs. She was a member of the Mandeville Garden Club and was on Mandeville’s U.S. Bicentennial Commission. She worked as a poll commissioner for over 20 years in Mandeville and was a member of the Republican Women’s Committee. She worked for many years as a substitute teacher at Mandeville High School and served as an aide on a handicapped school bus from 1984 to 1998. Her greatest challenge in life though was her battle with kidney failure. Marilyn became a dialysis patient just after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She received a kidney transplant at Ochsner in New Orleans in 2010, which was ultimately unsuccessful. During this sometimes-grueling ordeal, she never complained and managed to continue to live life to the fullest. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marilyn be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church, 72040 Maple St., Abita Springs, LA 70420 on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM with visitation at church on Saturday beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. After the Interment, the family invites you back to St. Jane de Chantal for a reception. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ===================
