Betty J. Hughes, passed away at her daughter’s home on Friday morning, July 29, 
2016 at the age of 60. 
She was born in Helena, Arkansas and lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan for most 
of her life where she was an educator in the Grand Rapids School System and she 
also spent 20 years in Fisk, Missouri. 

Loving wife of the late David Edward Hughes for over 40 years. 
Daughter of the late Mose Jackson and Bertha Mae Wheeler. 
Devoted mother of Leslie and husband Keith Harris and Cheryl and husband Booker 
Tuggle III. 
Step mother of Gussie, Lucille, Christine, Zell, Lisa, Tamela, David, Jr., 
Curtis, Reginald, Marquise and Desmond. 
Grandmother of 7 grandchildren and a host of step grandchildren and step great 
grandchildren. 
Sister of Juanita McClinton, (James), Robert Jackson, (Annie), Lewis Jackson, 
Sally Williams, Shirley Wheeler, (Bill), Jerlene Wheeler, Jessie Wheeler, 
(Debra), Mose Wheeler, Christella Wheeler, Ineada Gaines, (Aromar), Darlene 
Wheeler, Earnest Wheeler, Eric Wheeler, Rachel Banks, (Dale)

The family will have Funeral Services at New Morning Star Baptist Church in 
Haywood City, Missouri at a later time.
