She was married to Theodore H. “Ted” Rauch for 61 years. Ted died in 2013. In her final days, she rejoiced at the prospect of rejoining her beloved Ted to be forever together in paradise. Gene is the mother of Richard T. “Rick” Rauch of Lacombe. One of 8 siblings, she is the daughter of Lonnie D. Jobe, Sr. and Gracie Shelton Jobe. She is survived by 3 sisters, Juanita Mitchell of Brazelton, GA, Carole Gilless of Santa Maria, CA, and Cheryl Watkins of Melbourne, FL, along with numerous nieces, nephews and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews scattered across the country. Born in Memphis in 1933, Gene grew up in Atlanta and New Orleans (Bucktown), raised a family in Kenner, and later moved to Sun, and lived for many years in Mandeville. In her last years, she lived in the Park Provence assisted living facility in Slidell. Her abiding kindness, her shy and endearing gentleness, and her ever-present smile will be missed by all who knew her. Gene is a graduate of John McDonogh High School (Class of ’50) and Spencer Business College (class of ’52) both of New Orleans. She began her varied business career working as a counter girl at McCrory’s on Canal St. and as a secretary trainee at Bacon Lumber Company before joining Whitney Bank in New Orleans as a receptionist/secretary. Then, after working full time as a new wife and mother, Gene worked as a secretary/office manager for St. Lawrence the Martyr and St. Jerome churches in Kenner, and later as an executive secretary for Dryades Savings and Loan in New Orleans and Akorn Ophthalmics in Abita Springs. After becoming a certified paralegal, she worked in this capacity for Graham Resources in Covington until her retirement. In her spare time she assisted Ted in managing Blueberry Hill Farm in Sun. Gene was a “cat person” and raised champion Persian cats for many years and did volunteer work for various animal shelters and support groups, including Pets and People as Partners and the St. Tammany Humane Society. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 11, 2016 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours on Monday will begin at 12:00 Noon. After the service, Gene will then join Ted in their family plot in Mandeville Cemetery. ===================
