Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2016/st1608.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== William R. “Bill” Alford, Jr., born June 10, 1940, in Dixie, Alabama, died August 5, 2016, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Susan, the love of his life; four children, Toni A. Parker (Randy), W. Raley Alford, III (Erin), Melissa A. Faber (Brandon), and John S. Alford (Blair); eight grandchildren, Spencer Parker, Mackenzie Parker, Katherine Alford, Elizabeth Alford, Helen Alford, Riley Faber, Jack William Faber, and William Alford; a sister, Judith A. Skipper (Wesley); and nephew Brad W. Lore (Angela). Bill graduated from University Laboratory School in 1958; Louisiana State University in 1962, where he was a member and president of the Gamma Iota Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity; and Tulane University Law School in 1966. Bill practiced as an attorney for nearly 50 years. In addition to his private practice, he served as an assistant district attorney in six parishes of Louisiana (Orleans, St. Tammany, Washington, Tangipahoa, St. Helena, and Livingston) and as a capital public defender in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. He also served as an Assistant Attorney General, chairman of the Criminal Law Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Special Counsel to the Louisiana Judiciary Commission, member of the St. Tammany Parish Planning and Zoning Commissions, and Chairman of the Covington Housing Authority. Bill also was a farmer, and one of his loves was the husbandry of animals. He also loved to talk about politics and current events, and he was one of the few residents of St. Tammany Parish to have a “Democrat and Proud” bumper sticker on his pickup truck. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
