A native of Delhi, LA, she was born on Monday, October 12, 1931 to Ozile Hall and Charles Wesley Wilson, also known as Mudge and Paw-paw. She was a resident of Ponchatoula for over 20 years before moving to Covington in 2014. The beloved wife of the late Robert R. Sistrunk, M.D., she is survived by three sons - Michael R. Sistrunk, Sr. (Juliana), Mark Terry Sistrunk (Lane) and Steven Shawn Sistrunk (Judy); one brother - Charles Wiley Wilson; three sisters - Virginia Dare Barron, Shirley Ann Dean and Susie Leona Estrada; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren - Devon and Jessica Sistrunk and one sister - Julia Faye Reynolds. “Dane” graduated from Delhi High School as Valedictorian and from LSU with honors. She immediately went to work as a teacher in Plaquemines Parish in order to support Royce through medical school. After teaching in New Orleans for many years she enrolled herself as a student into the William Carey College School of Nursing. After graduating No. 1 in her class, she embarked on a second career as Chief Nurse Oncologist at Baptist Hospital on Napoleon Ave. in New Orleans. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours on Saturday will begin at 9:30 AM. Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA will immediately follow services. The Sistrunk family would like to express their sincerest gratitude for the level of care provided to Royce and Dane this past year by such loving and gifted nurses.
