Don was a native of New Orleans and began working in the international shipping industry in 1970 where he developed a passion for nautical affairs and international finance. In 1979, he founded his own company, Blue Water Shipping Company, which soon became a leading grain export agency in Louisiana, with a staff that was deeply valued throughout the Gulf Coast for their thoroughness and integrity. To this day, Blue Water Shipping Company maintains a prominent presence on the River and throughout the world. Don leaves behind several family members and friends who celebrate his independent spirit, acute intelligence, and unwavering generosity. Don was the son of the late Pat Farrington Bass, Sr. and Florence Pottharst Bass and the brother of the late Pat Farrington Bass, Jr. and Robert Randolph Bass. He was the loving father of two sons, Barrett Farrington Bass and Brice Dickinson Bass. Don is also survived by those to whom he served as a paternal figure to throughout his lifetime, including Melissa Cucinello, Jessica Cucinello, Tara Thomas Bourgeois, and Trevor Thomas as well as their mothers Teresa Bass and Cathy Bass. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4600 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70115 to celebrate Don’s life. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Hope Mausoleum, New Orleans, LA. Perhaps more than anything, Don was best known for his willingness to extend generosities to others in times of need. In this spirit, we ask that donations be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. ===================
