He was the beloved husband of Mary Genevieve Marquer Dauphin, and father of Michael T. Dauphin, Gary C. Dauphin (Tommye), Julie Dauphin Broggi (John), and Jeanne Dauphin Cargo (Jamie). His surviving siblings are brothers, Harold Dauphin, Dennis Dauphin, Edward Dauphin and David Dauphin. His surviving sisters are Brenda Dauphin Zeringue, Doris Dauphin Smith and Marie Adele Dauphin Moran. Mr. Dauphin is preceded in death by his parents Frances Reitmeyer Dauphin and Marion J. Dauphin, and two brothers, Derbes Dauphin and Donald Dauphin. “Dookie” leaves to his “8” precious grandchildren wonderful memories of vacations and holidays. They are Joshua, Joey and Genny Broggi, Garet, Samuel and Colleen Dauphin, and Candace and Connor Cargo. Dookie also has “6” beautiful great grandchildren. Born on August 13, 1932, Mr. Dauphin graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School, Redemptorist High School, and Loyola University. Throughout his life he was on many championship teams making All-Prep in football and baseball. He turned down scholarships from LSU and Auburn Universities to attend Loyola on a full four year baseball scholarship. This was thanks to coach “Skeeter” Theard from Redemptorist, and coach Jack Orsley of Loyola. “Dookie” went on to be inducted into 5 Halls of Fame, and to turn down offers from many professional teams. He stayed in New Orleans to marry his sweetheart, Mary Gen Marquer, whom he met in history class at Loyola University. This man had so many successes in life. He was a president of Greater Gentilly Kiwanis Club, Past President of Appliance and Electronic Assoc., Past President of St. Louise de Marillac Parish Council, and a lector and Eucharistic minister for several years in that parish. He served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army at Ft. Gordon, GA, where he played baseball for the post team against major league teams from Florida. He also turned down offers from the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox. During his life he was on the Academy of Holy Angels Board, Riverland Credit Union Board, and Past President of the New Orleans Umpire Association. In the Father Clarence Hug K.C. Council he held the position of financial secretary, and for years also served as Justice of the Peace -the first Republican elected in St. Bernard since Reconstruction Days. His Hall of Fame accomplishments are: 1) Redemptorist – for football and baseball, 2) Loyola University for baseball as an individual (best centerfielder) 3) Loyola University – best baseball team for Loyola University 4) New Orleans Umpires Association and 5) in 2001 – inducted into the Diamond Club of Greater New Orleans. A mass will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary Street in Madisonville, LA 70447. Family, friends, Knights, especially golfing friends and NOPSI retirees may visit from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Masses preferred, or donations to Loyola University Sports Program, in Dookie’s honor. Many thanks to St. Tammany Parish Hospital Hospice group, especially nurses Lisa, Alden, Ada and Cindy. Dookie’s caregivers were the best. Most loved was Delores Stevenson who cared for him for a very long time; and Vickie Cannino and Ginger Acosta. God Bless All. US Army ===================
