Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2016/st1609.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Kenneth Edward McCann lost his battle to lung cancer in Covington, LA and passed away peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on September 11, 2016. He was 62. He was born on August 7, 1954 in Houston, TX and was a long term resident of New Caney, TX. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents Mr and Mrs Richard McCann, Sr, his stepmother Julia McCann, and his sister Mary Helen Simms. He is survived by his brothers and sisters and their families: Richard McCann Jr, Jeannie Bennett, Sharla Moore, Daniel McCann, Wanda Miller, James McCann, Evelyn Mowen , and many other family members. While many were being drafted during the Vietman War, Kenneth enlisted at the young age of 17 in the Navy. He proudly served his country for four years as Shipman on several vessels. After his honorable discharge, he proceeded to work in the oil industry for 30 years, learning various aspects of the business. With his vast knowledge of the trade, Kenneth was able to mentor many who followed in his footsteps. Kenneth had a great love for the water and was an avid Elvis fan. One of his most enjoyable pastimes was singing his favorite Elvis songs while cooking for his sisters Wanda and Evelyn. Being a very compassionate and generous man, Kenneth was an animal lover and advocated for animal rights. He would always donate food to the local animal shelter. He was a member of Paws For Ability, a non-profit volunteer basis organization that finds homes for abandoned animals. Memorial services for Kenneth Edward McCann will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 2:00 PM at the Mandeville Seventh Day Adventist Church 22337 Little Creek Rd, Mandeville, LA 70471 The family is asking in lieu of flowers to please make a donation to your local ASPCA.
