Son of the late Margaret Fletcher McKay and Gordon McKay. Brother of Russell McKay (Teri). Beloved husband of Patricia H. McKay. Loving father of Christopher James Gaudry (Malinda), Danielle Amanda McKay Ebrahem (Ahmad) and Donald Andrew McKay (Renee). Grandfather of Magnolia and Bridger Gaudry, Alexander and Maxwell Mounis, Ryleigh, Donovan and Dexter McKay. Doug was born on December 23, 1951 in Tampa, FL and raised in Bartlett, TX. He grew up on a greyhound farm raising and racing greyhounds. This is where Doug gained his love for speed and developed a fascination with automobile and motorcycle racing. Doug joined the Coast Guard at a young age where he quickly realized his passion for engineering. In the 70s, he moved to New Orleans where he met and fell in love with Pat while wearing an elaborate Bert costume from the TV show Sesame Street. They married, resided, and raised a family in Metairie, LA and then later in Mandeville, LA. Doug furthered his education at the University of New Orleans and pursued an engineering career. This eventually led him overseas to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he would remain until his sudden passing. He will be remembered for his extraordinary story-telling and unquenchable desire for adventure. He was happiest on the water. Doug had a passion for sailing and dreamed of sailing around the world. He loved fishing and took pride in teaching his grandkids a few tricks of the trade. He had a special appreciation for music and “attempted” to teach himself how to play many different instruments. He was well known for his over the top firework displays and loved to bring smiles to children through his portrayal of Santa Claus. Doug was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He will truly be missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Doug’s life at 123 Sarah’s Lane, Waveland, MS 39576 on 15, October, 2016 at 4:00 PM with a beach side memorial beginning at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Mr. McKay to be made to the Tipitina’s Foundation, www.tipitinasfoundation.org. ===================
