Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2016/st1610.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Lee Spencer Garrett Goetz was born on May 2, 1932 in University Hospital, Columbus, Ohio to Dr. and Mrs. Ephraim Spencer Garrett, Jr. She was Valedictorian of her 1950 graduating class at Union-Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio. She went with her parents to Biloxi, Mississippi where her father was a psychiatrist at the Veterans Hospital. In 1956 she married Charles Clifton Goetz, Jr. of Natchez, Mississippi who had just been given a Smith-Mundt grant to teach English as a second language in the Kingdom of Afghanistan and went with him to Kabul. When the grant was finished both Lee and Charles were asked to join Columbia University which had a team in country teaching English in both Habibia College and Kabul University. Her first boy, Charles Clifton Goetz, Ill was born in Kabul in 1957 at the American Embassy. In 1958 Charles was offered the directorship of the English language program in Mogadiscio, Somalia and the family went there. Her second son, Garrett Chamberlain Goetz was born in Nairobi, Kenya, since there wasn't a functioning hospital in Mogadiscio at that time. Following his birth, the family traveled extensively throughout South and East Africa. In 1961 Charles was given the directorship of the English Language Services Program to teach English to the Saudi Arabian Army in the Kingdom of Arabia. At that time it was the largest program of its type in the world. In Arabia women were not allowed to work so she wrote a childrens book "A Camel In The Sea" which was published in the United States by McGraw Hill and in Great Britain by Hamish Hamilton. When the family returned to the United States they settled in New Orleans where Lee and Charles retrained in Real Estate. Lee became a Broker and a Appraiser. They established Bagatelle Real Estate Co. and Goetz Appraisal Group. Both companies specialized in historic properties. Charles died in 2001 and Lee died October 9, 2016. Lee is survived by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 58203 LA-433, Slidell, LA, 70460 on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Visitation from 10:00A.M unil 12:00P.M with Mass starting at 12:00P.M. She requests in lieu of flowers that her family and friends contribute to St. Joseph's Indian School, P.O.
