Daughter of the late Marcus Mott and Margaret Long McWaters. Sister of the late Marcus McWaters, Marjorie Mandill, Margaret Brazier, Lucille McWaters, Shirley McWaters, Mary Dolores Hotard. Nanny was a loving Aunt and Great-Great-Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is survived by many dear friends. Valerie was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and a devoted parishioner of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Catholic Church formerly known as St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Always greatly devoted to the Blessed Mother, she hosted a monthly rosary group for many years. She also shared her faith through the teaching of catechism. Valerie retired from the United States Coast Guard, as a civilian, with numerous awards, after 40 years of service. As an alumna of Loyola University, she taught several college courses. Valerie was a talented seamstress; she enjoyed traveling and collecting antiques. Nanny loved hosting holiday celebrations with family and friends. Her family would like to thank her personal sitter, Patrice “Erica” for her many years of loving care. Her family would also like to thank Myletta, Lucy, and Notre Dame Hospice for their dedication and compassion in maintaining her comfort and dignity. Nanny was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday afternoon at 1:00pm December 1, 2016 at Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Catholic Church 3037 Dauphine Street New Orleans, LA 70117 Visitation will begin at 10:30 am until Mass time.
