He was born in Franklinton, LA on Thursday, September 10, 1936 to Lou Amanda Strahan and Julius William Mizell and was a long time resident of Baton Rouge before moving to Bush, LA in 2005. Upon graduating from Enon High School, Mr. Mizell joined the United States Air Force. Most of his duties and deployments during his 20 year career were with the Strategic Air Command (MAJCOM). He did however receive training at Japan’s Koda Con Institute to become a Physical Instruction and Training Specialist (hand-to-hand combat expert). His Judo technique, along with his skills using other formal close combat disciplines, won him numerous awards and great respect among those with whom he competed and trained. He was the beloved father of four children - Aubrey Mizell, Jr. (Hermalinda), Christina Renee Mizell, Jennifer Lynn Mizell and Leila Marie Mizell. He is also survived by nine grandchildren – Samantha Samson (Jesse), Logan Edwards, Jamila Ellis, Elena M., Erica L. and Emily R. Mizell, Daniel, Deborah and Deonna Kleinpeter; four great grandchildren – Dallas “D.J.”, Nordy, Jolene and Murphy; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers - Albert, Frank, Otto, Wiley, Hayward, Vernel, Elroy and Delmas Mizell; and two sisters - Thelma Bell and Genevieve Sharp. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 12:00 Noon on Friday, November 11, 2016 at New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Church Covington, LA 70435. Visiting hours at the church on Friday will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment at the Mizell Cemetery in Isabel, LA will immediately follow services.
