Martin of Covington, LA passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts in 1947, she was raised in Revere, MA. Judy was a proud graduate of Salem State College, (Salem, MA) who dedicated her life to teaching history. She began her teaching career at Matignon H.S. (Cambridge, MA) where she taught for fourteen years. In 1984 she moved to Covington and continued her teaching career at St. Paul’s Catholic School serving as Chair of the Social Studies Department for many years until her retirement in 2012. She was in the classroom each day, but also could be found after hours serving as faculty advisor to extra curricular school activities such as the Young Lawyer’s Club and the World War II Quiz Bowl. Judy was a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW) since 1988 and served in several officer positions over the years. Her beloved husband, Daniel H. Martin, preceded her in death. Judy is survived by three siblings: a brother, John Bernard (wife Linda) of Alton, NH, and two sisters: Mary Delp (husband Mike) of Revere, MA and Theresa Comeau (husband Ron) of Niceville, FL. Two stepsons also survive her: John Martin (wife Nylia) of Ocean Springs, MS and Justin Martin (wife Lori Calderon) of Virginia Beach, VA. She leaves behind four grandsons: Justin, Ty, Xander and Jared, along with a niece and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of St. Paul’s Catholic School. At a later date, a private service will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, where both Judy and her husband Dan will be interned together.
