He was born on January 9, 1933 in Española, NM to the late Alfredo G. Vigil and Maria Salazar Vigil. Orlando was the loving father of Dr. Joseph O. Vigil (Nikki). He was the proud grandfather of Maison Vigil and the late Mary Payton Vigil. Orlando was the brother of Frank Vigil of Denver, CO, Susie Garza of Santa Fe, NM, the late Eloy Vigil of Los Alamos, NM, and Rosina Adams of New Mexico. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Orlando was preceded in death by his granddaughter and his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia Holloway Vigil. Orlando was best known for his love of teaching, primarily secondary education, across several schools and states. He totaled 48 years in the classroom, and he faithfully served in the Lasallian order of the Christian Brothers for 21 years prior to leaving the order to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony in 1970. Some of the schools at which he taught included Christian Brothers School, De La Salle, Archbishop Rummel, St. Paul’s, and Jesuit, ending his career in 2003 after 22 years of service at Mandeville Junior High School. Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A WAKE will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. VISITATION on Friday will be from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.
