He was a 1947 graduate of Fortier High School and a 1951 graduate of Louisiana State University, earning a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering. While at L. S. U., he was a member of the track team and a member of Kappa Alpha Order. During those years, he met fellow student, Toni Denapolis. They later married, spending 67 happy years together, raising their children, and enjoying family life. Bill is survived by his wife, Toni, daughter, Kathe C. Watson Shinn (Rory), Covington, LA, grandchildren, Anna C. Boyter (Brian), Ryan A. Cumming, and William W. Watson, III (Tara), great-grandchildren, Aubrey Cumming, Braxton, Berlin, and Heidi Boyter, and Emma and Lucy Watson. Family members reside in Houston, TX. He is predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and W.R. Cumming, Jr., and son, W.R. Cumming, IV “Rush”. Bill began his career at Lane Wells, Houma, Petroleum Co., later New Orleans Public Service, electrical engineer, and W.H. Curtin, chemical engineer. He joined the Dravo Corporation’s Engineering Works Division in 1966 as manager of Southern Marine Sales of towboats and barges. In 1973, Dravo appointed him manager of Marine Sales for the Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA. Returning to New Orleans in 1977, Bill joined the staff of St. Louis Ship, Engineering Company. During his career, he was an active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He belonged to the International House and Propeller Club. Once retired, he and Toni moved to Diamondhead, MS where they spent twenty years on the Gulf Coast. Bill was an avid golfer, sport fisherman and an accomplished bridge player. He was a member of the Diamondhead Board of Directors, Men’s Golf Association, Boater and Bridge Clubs. In early 2000, he and Toni boarded their M/V Elsbeth and enjoyed the live- aboard experience of cruising the Gulf of Mexico. They later moored their cruiser on the Northshore in Mandeville, LA. Bill devoted his life to his family, providing for their every need and support. He will remain in our hearts as the Scottish man with all that applies to his ancestry – love of family, friends, sports, especially golf, and quick wit. Services were held privately, as he wished. ===================
