Flora Jean Dawsey passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 in Covington, LA. 

She was born on August 6, 1925 in Franklinton, LA to the late Benjamin Kenzie 
Dawsey and Hester Mae Blackwell Dawsey.

Jean was the loving sister of Harry Dawsey, Austin Dawsey, the late Sherwood 
Dawsey, Louis “Topper” Dawsey, and James Alton Dawsey. She is survived by 
numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jean attended college at the University of Oklahoma. She began working for 
Southern Bell, later South Central Bell Telephone Company, in 1943. She worked 
her way up the corporate ladder and retired as an executive after 35 years with 
the company.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff of Forest Manor 
Nursing Home and St. Tammany Hospital Hospice for the compassionate care given 
to Jean and her family. The family is also grateful and especially appreciative 
of the love and care given to her by her caregivers, Veronica, Kari, Twyla, and 
the many others who helped care for her over the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service at New Zion Baptist 
Church, 17387 New Zion Church Rd., Covington, LA 70435 on Saturday, March 18, 
2017 at 1:00 PM with Visitation from 11:00 AM until service time. 

Interment will be at Blackwell Cemetery, Folsom, LA. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Zion 
Building Fund, (985) 892-4711, or the Blackwell Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, 
(985) 796-3216.
