A service honoring her life will be held at the Northshore Unitarian Universalist Church 28662 Krentel Rd, Lacombe, LA 70445 on April 15 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jane Mauldin. Burial will be an intimate gathering held at Blythe Baptist Church cemetery, in Blythe, GA. at a later date. She will rest with her mother, father, and grandparents. Connie was born in Augusta, Georgia, to Irvin and Eileen Tant on June 15, 1932. She earned a BA in Art from the University of Georgia and a Master of Fine Art from Louisiana State University. In 1956, she settled in Louisiana to begin her family, art education career, and life-long work of promoting women’s rights. Connie was the first art teacher in Tangipahoa Parish, when she joined the faculty of Ponchatoula High School, where she also published the yearbook and coached tennis. Connie went on to teach studio art at McNeese University in Lake Charles, LA and lastly, she retired from St Tammany Public School system where she advanced the Gifted and Talented Arts program throughout the parish. She was a member of the St. Tammany Art Association for many years and enjoyed attending gallery exhibitions near and far. Throughout her teaching career, she also worked as a fine artist and exhibited her own paintings in abstract style with oil paint and collage. She was a kind and gentle, yet strong woman who supported the rights for women and minorities. She was a friend, a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. She took refuge in her home, with her garden as the backdrop of many pictures and memories. Her legacy will have a meaningful impact on generations to come. Connie's favorite pastime was genealogy, documenting the history of the Clark, Tant, Davis and Sanders families. She was a lifelong learner and avid reader. For recreation, Connie favored the outdoors, especially lakes, rivers and beaches, from which her love of sea turtles grew. Connie Davis is preceded in death by her parents and her former spouse, Paul Raymond Davis. She is survived by her children, Sarah Eileen Hoffpauir, William Daniel Davis, and Amy Grace Davis, her grandchildren Dara Constance Sanders and Aaron Matthew Sanders; her great granddaughters Anna, Clara, and Lillian Sanders; loving cousins; and devoted friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the National Endowment for the Arts or the Human Rights Campaign. E.J.
