JoEllen was born in Covington Louisiana on June 24, 1928 to Emile Heintz and Ida Adolphine Frederick Heintz. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 63 years Julian J. "Porky" Rodrigue. Also preceding her in death were her siblings Althea Heintz Blossman and Everett Heintz and her nieces Laura Lee Blossman O'Keefe and Edna Blossman Bulloch. JoEllen is survived by her son Julian J."Rod" Rodrigue Jr. and wife Mary Barker Rodrigue of Covington and daughter Julie E. Rodrigue Carbo and husband Deke G. Carbo of Metairie. She is the beloved grandmother (aka JoJo) of MaryClaire B. Rodrigue and Julian J. Rodrigue III. JoEllen was a proud lifelong resident of Covington. She attended Lyon (Covington) High School where she was a cheerleader, played in the band and was the homecoming queen. Upon graduation in 1945, she attended LSU in Baton Rouge where she met her future husband Porky. Together they became lifelong Tiger fans and closely followed the Tigers through thick and thin. Their set of LSU 1958 National Championship glasses are still in the cupboard. There are tales from road trips with friends to see the Tigers play that have become legendary. After receiving her Bachelor's degree from LSU, JoEllen and Porky were married in Covington in August of 1950. JoEllen taught school at Fifth Ward and Porky began his law practice. They spent their entire married life in Covington where they raised their family and thrived on the pleasure of small town life, family and friends. Though JoEllen faced numerous health and physical challenges in her adult life, those challenges were no match for her determination, feisty spirit and great sense of humor. She loved and cherished her family and friends, and her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She will be missed terribly by everyone who knew her but leaves us with wonderful memories. After losing Porky several years ago JoEllen was determined to continue to live at home. The family would like to thank the wonderful group of sitters that took such good care of her around the clock and allowed her to stay in her home until the end. Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Service at the Covington Presbyterian Church, 222 S Jefferson Ave, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM. Interment will be held privately at Covington Cemetery #1, Covington, LA.
