Mary Lou was born in Marysville, MI to the late Harriet and Clarence Curley. She was preceded in death by her very loving siblings, Marjorie Curley Crimmins and Richard Curley. In Port Huron, MI, she met and married her beloved husband of 40 years, the late Robert A. Watkins. This grateful soul thanked God every day for His gifts of four children which created her family: Paul Watkins, John Watkins (Joni), Jeanette Watkins Kissee (Greg), and Molly Watkins. Proud Grandmother of eight grandchildren: Kaitlin Watkins Kelly, Kristin Kernan; Adam, Hayden, Ethan, and Nicholas Kissee; Caroline Watkins, and Linnea Joanen. Great grandmother of Jack Gurtler and John B. "Jack" Kelly, IV. Mary Lou lived her entire life in preparation for Eternal Life in Heaven by selflessly putting others first, especially the less fortunate by spreading her love and showing kindness to all. She chose the career of nursing as a RN, and practiced the admirable profession for 43 years. She retired as the Supervisor of OB/GYN at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA. Mary Lou was well known for her lifetime of volunteering, notably her work with the Samaritan Center in assisting indigent people in obtaining medication, manager of Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities, and the Crisis Pregnancy Center. She was recognized for her outstanding contributions to her community and was the recipient of the Making a Difference award by New Orleans television station WDSU. She was also awarded the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion from Archbishop Francis Schulte for service to her parish and local community. Mary Lou resided in Covington, LA and Dallas, TX for the past 42 years. She was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Mandeville, LA and was a devoted Catholic, dedicating her life to God and family first. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448, on Friday, April 28 from 10:30- 12pm. A Funeral Mass will commence at 12pm with Interment following at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, 75376 River Road, Covington, LA 70457. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the memory of Mary Lou Watkins to be made to The Samaritan Center, 402 Girod St., Mandeville, LA 70448 or The Alzheimer's Organization at www.alz.org.
