Charles Joseph “Charlie” Hemenway died on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the age 
of 80. 

He is survived by his wife, Pat Hemenway, and their blended family, Charles 
S. Hemenway (Ruth Mills), Curtis S. Hemenway, Cullan S. Hemenway (Leslie), 
Stephen J. Roppolo (Leslie), John C. Roppolo (Rachel) and Richard T. Roppolo 
(Jenny Jerusal). He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Nick, Ben and 
Madison Hemenway; and Sophie, Meg, Ellie, Miles, Chela, Augie, and Thea 
Roppolo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Adragna Hemenway 
and Charles W. Hemenway, and his brother, Rev. Richard Hemenway.

Mr. Hemenway graduated from Jesuit High School of New Orleans and received 
both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from LSU. Charlie taught at 
Nicholls High School in New Orleans and Metairie Park Country Day School. He 
was Headmaster of Aspen Country Day School in the 1970s and Headmaster of 
St. Paul’s Episcopal School from 1980 until his retirement in 2004.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at St. 
Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on 
Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 4:00 PM with a gathering at the church prior to 
the service beginning at 3:00 PM. A reception will follow in O’Ferrall Hall 
at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Hemenway to the St. Paul’s 
Episcopal School Endowment Fund, 6249 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 are 
greatly appreciated.
