Mrs. Packer was born August 20, 1937 to Claude Johnson Jr. and Verna Wilson in Springfield, Ohio. Mrs. Packer was prededed in death by her parents, and a brother, Gary Raymond Johnson of Slidell. She is survived by her husband of over fifty nine years, Willie J. Packer; a brother, Claude Johnson III (wife Chaunette) of Minden, Louisiana; one aunt, Francis Faciane of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, many of whom reside in the Slidell area. Vera was a longtime resident of Slidell and had fifty years of experience in several banking and homestead organizations in the city. The last twenty years of work she was a Certified Financial Planner for American Express, with the office here in Slidell. Vera was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Slidell. She served on several boards and committees of the church. For many years Vera was the lead teacher of the Gideon Sunday School Class as well as a team teaching leading the well known Disciple Series Studies. Vera became very active in the district and annual conference of the Methodist Church in Louisiana serving on several boards and committees. Several times she served as a delegate to the jurisdictional conferences of the Methodist Church. In her retirement years, Vera and her husband worked as volunteers in several of the national parks, wildlife refuges, and fish hatcheries supported by the federal government. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017, at First United Methodist Church of Slidell, 433 Erlanger Drive, Slidell, Louisiana, 70458. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Notre Dame Hospice, 1000 Howard Ave 10th Floor, New Orleans LA 70113, or First United Methodist Church of Slidell Memorial Fund, 433 Erlanger Drive, Slidell LA 70458. ===================
