Michael was born in New Orleans on May 13, 1959, the son of Michael Rand Porter and Marilyn Atchley Porter. He lived a little over half of his life in California, an appropriate setting as Michael was a direct descendant of Don Antonio Maria Lugo, one of the earliest Spanish settlers of California, and the great-great grandson of California's 20th governor, Henry T. Gage. He returned to the state of his birth in 1992. In Louisiana, Michael benefited from services provided by Evergreen Presbyterian Ministries, STARC, and the special programs provided for developmentally handicapped citizens by the First Baptist Church of Covington. He loved music and trips to Disneyland and Disneyworld, both of which he visited many times. Michael was a happy and optimistic individual, who was always looking forward to the next holiday or celebration. He loved and trusted everyone he came in contact with. Everyone he met was his friend. Michael is survived by his mother, Marilyn Atchley Jackson and his younger brother, Sean Patrick Porter, as well as his aunts, uncle and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Rand Porter. Services will be held at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue in Covington, LA on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment at the Mandeville Cemetery will follow. Donations to STARC, 1541 ST. Ann Place, Slidell, LA 70460 or Evergreen Presbyterian Ministries ===================
