He was born April 15, 1929 just southeast of Moundville, AL to Ida Mae McCray Owens and Lamar Woodfin Owens. He has been a resident of St. Tammany Parish since 1971. The beloved husband of Betty Ruth Peters Owens, he is survived by his son - Daniel W. Owens, Jr. (Brenda); his daughter - Sherri "Lil" Cooper (Michael); two brothers - Winston and Paul Owens; five grandchildren - Jacob Owens, Sr. (Stacy), Courtney Owens, Jennifer Crow (Matt), Jason Cooper (Lydia) and Megan Cooper; and four great grandchildren - Jacob Jr. and Jaxon Owens, Lucas Crow and Shiloh Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-Aubrey Owens, and his great grandson Karter Cooper. SFC Daniel Webster Owens Sr served his country proudly in the Korean War in 1951 overseas. After his active duty he continued his service with the Alabama National Guard for many years. He then began his journey in life with Betty Ruth Peters Owens in 1952. As a graduate of Troy State University he continued his journeys as an auditor with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. until retirement in 1989. He then continued his teachings with his son Daniel W. Owens Jr. and his grandson Jacob D. Owens Sr. at Superior Tire of SE La Inc located in Mandeville and Covington La. from 1990 to 2017. His presence will be missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433.Visiting hours on Thursday will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment at the Southeast LA Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA will take place privately at a later date. US Army ===================
