A native and lifelong resident of Folsom, LA, he was born on Saturday, May 15, 1954 to Donice Thompson, Sr. and Rowena Crutchfield Mestayer. Johnny was never more content than working his land on the Little Tchefuncte River and attending church at Bogue Falaya Baptist Church. Born to be an outdoorsman, he was passionate about nature and skillfully blended with it while hunting, fishing, growing his garden and training horses. With a garden harvest to share, he could visit with neighbors and talk...and talk. He loved company to stop by for a taste of his country cooking and of course, to talk. Johnny also had a love of history and music, especially the blues. He played in a band and attended festivals often. He was a one of a kind person, who never met a stranger. He is survived by his long time friend and companion, Linda Cragg; one son - Kelton K. Thompson; his mother - Rowena Crutchfield Mestayer; his sister - Jo Ann Thompson (companion to Delmar Caldwell); two brothers- Dylan J. Barker and Donice Thompson, Jr. (husband to Jeanette); and only niece- Jennifer Thompson. He was the proud grandson of Jim and Martha Thompson, the Rev. J.E. and Lottie Crutchfield. His father- Donice Thompson, Sr. precedes him in death. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 4:00 PM on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Bogue Falaya Baptist Church, 78689 Hwy 25 Folsom, LA 70437. Visiting hours at the church on Monday will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment at the Allison Cemetery in Folsom, LA will immediately follow services.
