He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Barbara Phyllis Mayfield; they were married 64 years. Bobby, the son of Robert M. and Ethel Lawler Mayfield and a sister Ethel Mayfield Elliott, all preceded him in death. Bobby spent 4 years (1951-1955) in the US Navy during the Korean War where he was attached to the U.S.S. Menifee (APA-202). After leaving the Navy Bobby retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Standard Materials of Slidell. Bobby leaves behind 3 children, Robert L. Mayfield, Jr.(Mississippi), Sandra Browning (Stan), (Idaho) and Scott Mayfield (Slidell). He was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Brent Mayfield, Beau Bourgeois, Betsy Vaughan, and Brandon Mayfield. His four grandchildren blessed him with six great grandchildren, Weston Mitchell, Jessie Lynn Vaughan, Ryan Vaughan, Cole Taylor, Adam Vaughan and Gauge Mayfield. After retirement the exciting life of travel began. Bobby and Phyllis drove their motor home from one side of the country to the other, visiting every state except Hawaii. Bobby was never one to sit still. After a full day of work he would always find something to tinker with around the house. In the past couple of years he began a new hobby of building (to scale) replications of pirogues and flat bottom boats; the type he and his father constructed (full sized) for others all during his life. The Slidell Magazine is doing a story on Mr. Mayfield and his little boats. It should be out in the next issue. A Memorial Service was held at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday August 16th. Bobby will be interred at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell. A small service of family and friends is scheduled for Thursday the 24th at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in making a donation could make that to the Wounded Warrior program. US Navy ===================
