She was 91 years old. She is also survived by Lawrence McClelland, a son, his wife Debbie and three grandchildren: Elizabeth McClelland, Mary McClelland and Blair McClelland. Miss Bernie lived a full and rich life, devoted to her family, her community and her faith. She was born in New Orleans and graduated from Sacred Heart High School on Canal, and Hotel Dieu School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. She moved to Slidell in 1954 and soon went to work for the State of Louisiana as a Public Health Nurse. She could be found at the area schools giving screenings and vaccinations, and marching up and down the hall of the old Public Health Office on Bouscaren. She was known as the “shot lady” to so many in the growing city of Slidell, that even after her retirement as a Nursing Supervisor with 32 years of service, she was often stopped and thanked. Her devotion to her community didn’t stop there. Miss Bernie was also a founding parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church in Slidell. She was active in the planning and operation of the SMM Church Fair for many years; in addition, she worked tirelessly with the Ladies Alter Society maintaining the church sanctuary and sacristy along with the priests’ vestments and altar linens. For her many years of dedication and service, she was awarded the Archdiocese Order of St Louis. Bernadette is preceded in death by her mother Bernadette Wiltz Wiexel and father Joseph Liuzza Sr., and her brother Joseph Liuzza Jr. She will be missed greatly by her family, friends and community. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the St. Margaret Mary Ladies Altar Society, Second Harvest or any other favored charity. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., on Friday August 11, 2017 from 10:30AM to 12:30PM, with a funeral Mass to follow. The Celebrant for the Mass will be Rev. Msgr. Lanaux Rareshide. Interment will be at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, 75376 River Rd., Saint Benedict, LA. ===================
