She was born to the late Roy and Vera McGreer at Napanee, Ontario, Canada on June 27, 1928. Esther attended Napanee Collegiate and Vocational Institute in Napanee and graduated in 1946. Esther was married to the late James Elwin Snider in 1948 and they were together for 52 years. She was an active member of her church in Napanee as a young girl and sang in the choir. She continued doing so throughout her life and also when the family moved to Louisiana in 1954. After Elwin passed in 2000 she lived in Abita Springs. She enjoyed volunteer work at the Covington public library and fellowship and singing in the choir at New Zion Baptist Church. Esther's early years involved the grocery store that her parents owned in downtown Napanee. She spent a lot of time growing up helping with all the chores involved in the business and assisting her mother to keep up the home. She was introduced to Elwin by his sister Fern (her classmate) and they were partners in life from that point on. They worked the family farms outside of Napanee after they were married until 1954 at which time they moved south to Louisiana. Esther is survived by her five children: William Snider (Josie) Cheryl Gray (Tom) Gloria Gremillion (Greg) Jim Snider (Theresa) Merry Byers (Brian); her brother Howard McGreer; her sister Catharine McGreer Armstrong; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Esther is preceded in death by her brothers William McGreer and Robert McGreer and her sister Lois McGreer Nickle. Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service at New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Church Rd, Covington, LA 70435 on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12:00 Noon until service time. Interment will follow the service at New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations by made to New Zion Church Building Fund. ===================
