Near Pritchard Road Ward Eight - Recorded: August 14, 2000 By: Dr. Belford Carver & Donald W. Johnson William Adler 1884 -- 1937 Patrick A. Adler 1879 -- 1955 17 Wooden Croses Marking Graves. ! Wood St. Joseph Statue No other Markings. **** DWJ ==================================================================== This cemetery goes by three different names according to various sources. There are only two Adler headstones; most of the graves are marked with small white crosses. Byard "Bill" Adler and his wife, Ida, maintain this cemetery, and they live in Covington, LA. Bayard's father was William. He has two uncles buried in the cemetery, both were bachelors. Patrick is one of the uncles. The other uncle is Joseph who is buried in the grave marked with the St. Joseph statue. The plot with coping and marked with two white crosses contain a brother and sister of Bill. The eight crosses across the front of the cemetery are graves of still-born babies or other infants who died very young. Names are unknown; names of parents unknown. The crosses in the back of the cemetery mark graves of some other family members, but Mrs. Adler wasn't sure of the names. She suggested that I call her husband's older brother, Percy Adler, who lives in Metairie. Bill is the youngest in the family. At one time there was a Catholic Church on Hwy 22 named Holy Guardian Angels where Bill was baptized. This chapel has been moved to the Carmelite Nuns of Covington location. This is why the name "Catholic" has been used for this cemetery. Bill and his family moved away from this area when he was eight years of age. In addition, Bill had a grandmother named Collins. The property for this cemetery was donated by Mr. Sam Arnold who is buried just down the road in a cemetery that carries his name. Sam and William Adler were good friends and neighbors. In a later conversation with Percy Adler, he said that the name of the infant brother was Virgil. He also said that his grandmother Collins was Angelina Collins Adler. She and her husband, William, are buried in this cemetery; as well as a cousin, Lena Collins. His grandmother's sister and her husband are buried here, but he couldn't recall their names. He said that his grandparents homesteaded land in this area and that his grandmother was also influential in establishing this cemetery. He also confirmed that his father and Sam Arnold were close friends, and that he had spent a lot of time with the Arnold family when he was a child. Conversation with Mrs. Byard Adler, Covington, August 15, 2000. Mr. Travis Arnold, who lives across the road from this cemetery, gave me the name of Byard Adler on August 15, 2000. His father was Sam Arnold. (See Sam Arnold Cemetery.) Conversation with Percy Adler, Metaire, August 21, 2000. Belford E. Carver, EdD August 21, 2000 ******************* In a letter to Belford Carver dated October 23, 2000, Ida Adler stated that Lenore Adler Gaile and her husband, Jacob Gaile, are buried here. Lenore Adler is the daughter of Angelina Collins Adler and William Adler.
