Ricks was a Varnado (Maurice Varnado stated that Nancy C.(Caroline) Varnado Ricks was the d/o William Pearl Varnado. He stated that the middle name of Warren Ricks was Woodward.) ****************************** The following received from Maurice Varnado, July 8, 2004, for 3 of the unmarked graves: Samuel Warren Varnado, 12/03/1821 - 11/05/1887 h/o Narcissa Anne Hogan Varnado, ?/?/1825 - 10/11/1873 h/o wife No. 2, Mary Sabrina Lea, 4/24/1842 - 4/15/1888 --Belford Carver, July 8, 2004-- ****************************** Received from Maurice Varnado, Aug. 22, 2004, regarding the unmarked graves of Samuel Warren Varnado and his two wifes: According to Dorman Varnado, several bricks stand on end, at the head of Samuel's grave site. If one stands at the foot of that grave, to the left of it is the unmarked grave of wife #1, Narcissa Anne Hogan. To the right side of Samuel's grave is the grave of wife #2, Mary Subrina Lea. The unmarked grave located in the row below and at the foot of Samuel, is reported to be that of one of Samuel's sister's, though I have been unable to find out which sister. Harrell D. Varnado of Jackson MS, had a triple tombstone made for Samuel and his wives, but died before he could place it. No one is sure where the stone is at this writing. Dorman has seen the stone and obtained the information from Harrell, hence, I am passing this on to you, in the interest of research and the possible loss of all knowledge, if not noted. ****************************** The W. W. Ricks Cemetery is also referred to as the Ricks-Alford Cemetery. It is located just East of the Bolivar Baptist Church, toward Washington Parish. The property is now owned by the Aubrey Cooper Family. At one time it was owned by the Ellis Bankston family. Before that it was owned by the Alford family; hence the name "Ricks-Alford Cemetery."
