The Sylvest Cemetery article appeared in The Register June 1979, page 110. The first article was submitted by Alta Mae Douglas & Lila Setton. These two ladies are to be commended for their efforts in copying inscriptions from many of the cemeteries in this area. They obviously copied what they saw! Evidently there is a memorial marker in the cemetery naming various Sylvest Family members. Mrs. Hughes points out that Francis M., Nehemiah, Simeon, Mary Ann, Edward A., John L. & Rosa Elen are not actually buried in this cemetery. In addition Mrs. Hughes gives us complete dates for the following: Francis Sylvest 5 Jul 1808 - 11 Oct 1896 88 yrs 3 mos 6 days Martha Stevenson w/o Francis Sylvest 1820 - 6 Sept 1882 Aged 62 yrs Wm. R. Sylvest s/o Francis & Martha Sylvest 25 Jul 1851 - 12 Mar 1875 21 yrs 7 mos 18 days Mrs Hughes further says there are two adult unmarked slabs which are reputed to be graves of John Morgan and Mrs. Harriet Bennett Lowery. There is also one unmarked child's grave in which is buried an unnamed Sylvest infant. This cemetery located in Tangipahoa Parish, La. (See PHOTO GALLERY for headstone of Mrs. Lowery.
