The residence of 409 is no longer occupied. According to a neighbor, it is maintained by the Greater St. James AME Church of Hammond. Charles Daggs (US Navy Civil War), grandfather of Clemetine Gibson Eliza Thompson Daggs, grandmother of Clemetine Gibson Albert Gibson, father of Clemetine Gibson Harriett Gibson, mother of Albert Gibson Aunt Sophie Gibson died at age 98, mother of Clemetine Israel Carter and Aunt Rachael Carter, wife of Israel. (A note: But Uncle Israel, Eugenia, daughter, and Levi, son of U. Israel are buried cross town cemetery.) Aunt Sophie's mother and father were slaves from mother came from Baltimore, MD. Father from Washington DC settled at Joe Johnson place in Woodville, Miss. Family moved to Gross Tete where Sophie was born. At 15 she came to N.O. to work. Married at 18 in Hammond in Mr. Tom Cate's living room. Aunt Sophie died Jan 3, 1953 lived in this home over 100 years little changes during this period of time. William Daggs, Sophie's brother, lived in same yard. Adeline Baker lived one block south died before Aunt Sophie. Angelia Blaue Died March 6, 1917 (flat and barely readable today) Beatress, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lymus Ricks June 26, 1898 -Nov 4, 1915 At Rest with Jesus This has been a burial place for over 100 years Joe Lewis, Rev. Riley Andrew, was minister of St. James Church near by died before Lettie Anderson moved into the one remaining house over 50 years ago. The parents of Levi and Eugenia Carter are buried here. Cornelia Ann George 1881 -1910 I am sitting round the throne High brick vault cement covers top: Lettie said this was 4 Carter graves. 1881 -1899 on marble slab in middle of decorative front.
