OCT 22, 1942 APR 12, 1992 ROW 1- OLD SECTION 1. ARNOLD A. MIXON MAY 9, 1862 CO. B 16 LA INFANTRY C.S.A. *** On June 22, 2004, visited by Belford and Joan Carver. The cemetery is in a pasture of the Verberne family, about 0.4 of a mile west of Hwy 1061. The address on the mailbox (green on a yellow post) nearest the lane to the cemetery is 72177. This lane is about 0.4 of a mile south of the J.T. Conerly Rd., which is in Ward 2, and about 1.5 miles south from the junction of Hwys1054 and 1061 in Spring Creek. Engraved on the coping of the grave of Mr. Verberne is the prayer..."God grant me the serenity..." Also, are the dates Dec 11, 1991 and Apr 12, 1992. Amber Verberne explained to us that Philip Jr. was gored by a bull on the first date, and died on the second date. She also stated that the east half of the cemetery, where Mixon is buried, was "full". Her father, Philip III, mentioned to me earlier in a phone conversation that there were 15 to 20 sink holes prior to the 1992 burial, and that many years ago the Spring Creek highway passed close to this cemetery. The family doubled the size of the cemetery and leveled it in 1992. The only headstone was that of Mixon; no record of the others buried there, except for another Mixon 1936 engraved on a tree trunk. Another double plot west of Philip Jr., is: VERBERNE Mar: Jan 22, 1941 Philip E. Sr. Sep 4, 1919 - (blank) Norma R. Jan 24, 1921 - Jan 19, 2003 (FM: Has her name as Norma M.) From Booth's book of La. Conf. Soldiers, Arnold A. Mixon enlisted Sept. 29, 1861, Camp Moore, La. Died at Lagrange Hospital, May 9, 1862. bec
