It is with gratitude that we, your committee on Obituaries, are able to report that out of a membership of nearly 1400 we have oly to record 15 deaths. The committees, in some of the churches, having failed to send notices of those who have died since our last report, we are only able to present you a partial list. E. E. McDaniel. Sister Elizabeth E. McDaniel was born in Amite county, Miss., Februsry 5th, 1857. And died in the same county and State, September 12th, 1883. Aged 26 years 7 months and 7 days. Sister McDaniel first made a profession of religion with the Methodist church in the year 1874 which profession she embraced until after her marriage, which took place December 27, 1875. She was married to our brother Jesse J. McDaniel and on the 4th of November, 1877, she was baptized into the fellowship of Line Creek church by Eld. G. N. Bankston, where she remained a faithful member until in the triumphs of faith she fell asleep in the arms of a blessed Jesus. Sister McDaniels' affliction was sever but of short duration, and the nearer death approached her the more anxious she was to go. She seemed to be cheered by the blessed thought that she was going home to rest, where sickness sorrow and pain and death are felt, and feared no more. No clouds darkened her way no terrors shook her soul. Previous to her death she had a talk with her husband and her expression was that she felt that when she died her soul would be carried home to heaven, and requested him to live a life that when he was called to die that they might meet and stroke hands on the banks of a sweet deliverance, and we feel assured that that calmness of soul and that firmness of purpose which course through life bore her up in the trying hour of death. Her remains was followed to the grave by her relatives and friends amid mournful silence. The funeral service was conducted by Eld. A. G. Felder, from 14th chapter and 14th verse of Job: "If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait till my change come." Aside from relatives she leaves a husband and four small children to mourn her loss, but we are fully persuaded that their loss is her eternal gain. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord they are at rest from their labors. Vilinda Morris. Sister Vilinda Morris was born in Pike county, Miss., June 19, 1819, and died August 28, 1883. Aged 64 years, 2 months and 9 days. She leaves a disconsolate husband and one daughter, one brother and two sisters with a large number of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Sister Morris was the eldest daughter of Simeon and Elizabeth Morris. She united with Silver Creek Baptist church in August, 1839, and with her husband moved her membership to Spring Creek church December 24, 1865, where she remained a member till her death. Forty-four years she was a constant follower of Christ. She united in an eminent degree those noble qualities of helpmate to her husband, an affectionate and indulgent mother, a model housekeeper and friend. While we mourn her loss we bow with humble submis- sion to the will of our Heavenly Father believing that our loss is her eternal gain. Elizabeth Prewitt Sister Prewitt was born in Amite county, Miss., March 6, 1859. Daughter of Franklin M., and Martha Carter, of Amite county. Was sustained from her infancy through life and the miraculous charm of providences until August, 1874, when she became applicable to the call of Christ and was received into the fellowship of Terry's Creek church, and December 9, 1879, was married to Smily Prewitt, of Pike county. Two or three years previous to her death became a consumptive sufferer, and thus lived until December 13, 1882, when the Lord saw fit to relieve her and she died singing, and expressed a willingness to go. Through leaving in the hands of God her husband and one little boy to mourn over her, may she be received into that place of rest spoken of for those who live and die in the service of the living God. H. A. Newman. Sister Newman was born in Amite county, Miss., August 5, 1840, and died after several months illness, September 1, 1883. She was the daughter of Joseph and L. B. Brown. She was married to George J. Newman, Marsh 12, 1857. Sister new- man joined Terry's Creek church, August 15, 1880, and re- mained a faithful member of the same till death. Some days before she died, feeling the summons of death near at hand, she called her husband, who has never yet professed religion, and requested that he would try to meet her in heaven, where there will be no more parting. She expressed herself willing to go, and when brought to the margin stream of death she pillowed her head upon those grand eternal virtues of God's holy word. No clouds darkened her way, no terrors shook her soul, but ay passive in his arms and breathed her life out sweetly there. She leaves a husband and ten children in this cold and cheer- less world to battle on in life without a mother's care. May God enable them all to meet her on the bright and suny banks of sweet deliverance. Aquilla G. McElveen Brother McElveen was born in Amite county, Miss., December, 1858 and was ever nourished and cared for by his parents Aquilla and Elizabeth McElveen. He was guided and directed from an infant by an All wise Father, and ever proved to the world to be honest and upright in all his dealings. He was married to Miss Letha Ann Brabham, December, 1879, and was shortly aroused at the condition in which he was living, and proposed to pray with his family, and being thus guided by the power and influence of the Holy Spirit he surely must have been relieved, and applied to Terry's Creek church for admittance and was received, and there remained until a further call, and all things happens together for best to those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose. It pleased the Lord to afflict, and two months previous to his death he was confined to his bed, and we have god reasons to believe that the Lord used him for a good purpose to the world that others might see his works and be brought to a sense of duty. We therefore wish to render to all men that which is due them. But can any more be said of anyone than that of our deceased brother? On the 2d day of March, 1883, the summons of death came and called him up higher. He leaves his companion and two little children to roam over this land of sorrow, and oh, may we so live that when we die our last end might be like his. Eliza Edwards. Sister Edwards was born in the State of Georgia, in A. D. 1814, removed to this State when very young, and was married to Daniel Edwards in 1834, and died December 12, 1882, Aged, 68 years. She was baptized into the fellowship of Sharon church by Elder Jesse Crawford, on the 22d day of September, 1850. Sister Edwards lived as her calling demanded: a devoted christian, a good companion and a pious mother, and was loved by all those around her. She was ever ready to aid those in want and administer to the disconsolate and admonish in that christian-like spirit. It pleased our Heavenly Father that her affliction should be long, and when brought to tho margin stream of death she pillowed her head upon those grand promises of God's Holy word. Her soul was set at liberty and was carried to that better land to join with the redeemed of God. She leaves seven children to mourn her, but their loss is her eternal gain. She was followed to the grave by her relatives and friends with falling tears and mournful silence. Fleet Magee The death of brother Fleet Magee has saddened the hearts of many friends and relatives. He was born in Washington parish, La., and ever resided near the old homestead until his death, October 3, 1883, aged 48 years, 3 months and 10 days. He leaves a widow seven children to mourn their loss. May God help the sorrows of the broken hearted widow, comfort the bereaved children and turn their hearts from the things of this world to things heavenly and divine is our prayer. Clerk. Elizabeth K. Fortenberry. Sister Elizabeth K. Fortenberry, wife of Jackson W. For- tenberry, and daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Pigott, was born September 30, 1845, and died March 3, 1883. In sister Fortenberry the community has lost one active constant friend, the church a zealous ornament, her husband a devoted wife, and her eight children an affectionate and provident mother. May God bless the mourning friends and relatives she leaves behind and mingle with their grief the joys of an anticipated meeting in the paradise of God where death can never come. We your committee on Temperance report as follows: As we are taught in the sacred scriptures to watch and be sober, and believing that true christians are a temperance people, whereas, for the salvation of our children and neighbors, and their children, from a drunkard's doom, for the spiritual prosperity of Zion, and for the wealth of our country, we should use every legitimate means within our reach to prohibit the soul-destroying vice of intemperance. To this end we should give our individual efforts, by word and deed, to the temperance cause, for it is assuredly and in every way worthy of the hearty support, not only of every lover of Jesus, but every lover of country in our land. In consideration of these measures, we would most earnestly recommend to the churches comprising this Association the adoption of the following resolutions, to-wit: Whereas the use of ardent spirits as a beverage is highly detrimental to the moral and religious interest of our land, and believing it to be our duty to exert all our influence against the liquor traffic, therefore be it Resolved, That we, the members of the churches, do hereby bind ourselves to give no counterance to the sale of intoxicating spirits. Be it further, Resolved, That any member who shall engage in the act of selling ardent spirits, or who shall be known to give any away at public gatherings, or who shall patronize a liquor saloon as such, or who shall be known to sigh a petition praying the sale of ardent spirits, shall be considered as guilty of a misdemeanor, disciplined accordingly Resolved, Further, that we disregard any minister in our pulpit who tolerates strong drink as a beverage.
