The wide-spreading ranch type house is built of old Chicago pink brick with pink woodwork trim. "My late husband, Lee Ray McAlister, and I owned the land for about ten years, but I built the home five years ago. He made the extra features" The spacious grounds are part of the land of the Louis Crouses, pioneer settlers in that section. Mrs. Katie Hermann, a daughter of the Crouses, has told about her wedding solemnized 62 years ago in the old homesite there. White wooden bridges span the brooks and rock gardens serve as mementoes of various trips when striking ones were brought home. A wishing well is suggestive of a romantic setting and a decorative windmill lends a touch of Holland to the garden. An antique wagon laden with plants and a goddess, Diana, beside the pond, areamong other points of interest in the landscaped grounds. Hand-hewn shingles accent the gables and dormer windows and a wide picture window in the library provide a view to the great outside. Walls are papered in the living room, dining room, bedrooms and baths, while the library, plant room and kitchen are paneled. A large fireplace lends a home atmosphere.
