Faces broadened into nostalgic smiles as steam engines rolled by the feet tapped to jazz music during the festivities at the National Railway Historical Society convention at the Fairmont-Roosevelt Hotel. There were approximately 800 delegates. James Trousdale was convention chairman. Members of the Southeast Chapter attending were Michael Christensen, president; Mrs. C. W. (Bill) Witbeck, Mrs. Dennis Granberry, the W. E. Butlers, the Tommy Davidsons, Judge Leon Ford III, Leon Ford IV and Louis Saillard. Hammond was brought into the limelight with the outstanding display of photographs of old railway engines, trains, stations and all types of railroad relics. The collection was from the files of the late C. W. (Bill) Witbeck, founder of the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the national organization and chapter president.
