The election Tuesday, April 12, will be for one mayor, one marshal, and five aldermen to serve for a period of four years as the guiding spirits of the town, to make the laws and enforce them, to carry on the work of progress started more than twelve years ago. In other words, they will be the board of directors who run the business of your town for the next four years. ******************************** ELECTION GOES OFF QUIETLY TUESDAY The Enterprise, June 17, 1932 Officers Elected for Four-Year Term to Take Office July 5; No Scratched Ballots The general election held in Ponchatoula on Tuesday of this week went off very smoothly and the votes poled totaled 111, the heaviest in a general election in several years. Mayor Haight, relected (sic), will begin his fifth term, he having already served ten years as mayor of Ponchatoula, which includes three two year terms and one four year term. Prior to 1928 the officers of Ponchatoula were elected for two years but after the 1928 election the terms were made four years each. While a total of 126 votes were cast at the two precincts in Ponchatoula 15 of these ballots were spoiled leaving a total of 111. Of the 111 votes none were scratched nor was any name written thereon. Others taking office on the 5th of July are L. A. Lavigne, marshal. Mr. Lavigne was appointed to fill the unexpired term of the late Ed. S. Tucker and was elected in the first primary over three opponents. "Uncle" Jake Bogue, elected as alderman, takes office for the first time, likewise C. Gerald Fannaly. These two replace Messrs. E. D. Parker and D. D. Sullivant, former members of the board of aldermen. Messrs. A. L. Edwards, A. B. Pierson and A. J. Pusey were all re-elected and will begin their second four year terms at the July meeting when the mayor and board of aldermen will appoint a street commissioner, a superintendent of water and sewerage and such other appointive officers as needed.
