John was a farmer in the area of St. Tammany Parish that later became Tangipahoa Parish. He married Caroline Mitchell 23 Jun 1857 in St. Tammany Parish. Caroline was the eldest daughter of Captain George Mitchell and Emily Brou, and was born in Nov. 1826, probably in the area that later became the Ponchatoula community. Caroline had two children from a prior union with Charles Wagoner (Wagner, Waggner): Frances Wagner, b. June 15, 1853, d. Feb. 6, 1939, m. Sept. 3, 1866 to Jules Perrin (1843 - 1931). Parents of: Morris J. , Joseph Eugene, Julius P., Emma Louise, Sam Nicholas, Zoe Caroline, Measey albena, Edna, Mary Caddie, George Thomas, Elizabeth, Robert E., Louis V. Henry Charles, and Harry Sheilds Perrin left many descendants. Emily Wagoner, b. May 1855, d. Feb. 28, 1912 , m. Feb 6, 1879 Valerie Hoover (1851 - 1940). Parents of: Willie P. R., Frances Fruza, James A., Valerie Auguste, George Thomas, Violo G., Joseph Jerome, and Lilly M. Hoover left many descendants. Caroline Mitchell Badeaux died Oct. 12, 1905 at the family residence east of Ponchatoula, and was buried in the Mitchell family cemetery, which had been donated by her mother Emily Brou Mitchell. John Badeaux was living in the summer of 1910 with his grandson Morris J. Perrin, and is thought to have died shortly after 1910. He was buried beside Caroline. John and Caroline had one child of their own: George Thomas Badeaux, b. Feb 17, 1861 at Ponchatoula, d. Feb. 20, 1939 in Laurel, MS, buried in Ponchatoula Cem., M. Oct. 12, 1891 to Edith Locke (1873 - 1938). After finishing the elementary grades in the country school near his home, it was agreed that George was to work for and board with Mr. & Mrs. Jake Abels, who had a general merchandise store in town. George would thereby be able to advance his education and learn a trade. After completing his education he took a job in New Orleans, Mobile, and later Hammond where he worked as a railroad shipping clerk. George and Edith had several children: George T. Jr., Edna Ruth, Joseph A., Mary Alice, Simeon L., David Kent, John Lacy, and Edward Raoul Badeaux.
