The early closing of the Ponchatoula public school is due to the harvesting of the strawberry crop, which is the main money crop of this section, and since Ponchatoula is the greatest shipping point of fruits and vegetables in the state of Louisiana, the school board closes the schools the latter part of March or the first of April so that the children may help in the picking and packing of the fruit. This year the Ponchatoula High school will issue diplomas to 51 students, provided all pass the final tests being conducted this week. Some of these students will return to the farms where they were born and reared, some will go to the cities to seek employment, some will continue their studies in the various colleges and others will find employment in the local field.
