BRECKWOLDT Breckwoldt, once a flag stop on the Baton Rouge, Hammond & Eastern Railroad, was located east of Hammond between Coburn and Robert. Its name derives from Frank H. Breckwoldt I, who came from Germany to Minnesota, where he married, and later moved south to settle in the Hammond area. Frank Breckwoldt II and his widowed mother, Anna, built a hotel on the banks of the Tangipahoa River where the flag stop was to be located. Their venture proved to be successful, since their summer resort attracted people from New Orleans and elsewhere. The hotel and depot are gone today. The place where the resort was located is now known as River Oaks.
