Smith, Jr., MAC, who was shot down behind enemy lines and wandered in the jungle for six weeks before escaping, has been seriously injured in an operational crash on Okinawa. When Lt. William E. Rogers' plane was crippled he and the radio-gunner parachuted safely into enemy territory and soon captured 5 Germans which they took into the American side. Maj. Albert Warren Brownfield (LSU '39) is leader of the squadron "Sea Hawks," credited with damaging or destroying 752,000 tons of Jap shipping, of which 63,000 tons were sunk in March, '45. When you return for "rehabilitation, recuperation and recovery," you can obtain gas rations at the rate of one gal. per day for each day of stay, with a limit of 30 gals.
