TRUE is one of eight Union soldiers buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond, LA. The following was taken from the National Archives. There was no record on him in the archives of the state of Vermont, but a suggestion was made to research those in the state of Massachusetts, which I did not do. Pvt. True enrolled 18 September 1862, in Coventry, Vermont for nine months, and served in Co. H, 15th Vermont Infantry. He was discharged 5 August 1863. He died in Hammond on July 10, 1895. No date of birth was found in the records. He developed a severe hernia during his service time in Fairfax, VA. He received $4 per month beginning January 11, 1871. The pension was increased at some time to $8 until his death in 1895. There was no information available on a wife or family, why he settled here, occupation, where he lived in Hammond, or the cause of death in Hammond. His grave number is 1-1-192B; no dates recorded.
