He was a native of El Paso, Texas, and a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Hammond, where he served as a deacon, trustee, president of the brotherhood, Bible teacher, chaplain for pastoral support ministry and armor bearer. He was also a Master Mason of Oak Grove Lodge 117 of Hammond, a member of Lambda Kappa Kappa Chapter Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he served as assistant secretary and a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People branch 6058. He is survived by his father, Lawrence Collins Sr. of Gulfport; his mother, Ruby Collins of Gulfport; his wife, Marcella Collins of Hammond; one son, Rodrick Collins of Hammond; two brothers, Lawton Collins of Norcross, Ga., and Jeffrey Collins of Gulfport; and one sister, Linda Price of Baton Rouge. A native of Lincoln County, Miss., he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, worked as a slasher operator, resided in Kentwood and was a member of Greenlaw Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Washington Artillery, president of the first St. Tammany Planning Commission and the parish engineer. He was a native of Doyle, a Marine and a pipe fitter with Local 198. He was also a member of Doyle Baptist Church and an auxiliary police officer for the town of Livingston. He is survived by his former wife, Betty Stewart; two sons, J.B. and Mark Stewart; three daughters, June Fitzgerald, Linda Andrews and Barbie Stewart McKnight; three sisters, Bonnie Sue Gibbs, Betty Wilson and Juanette Courtney; one brother, Roy Stewart; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy T. and Juanita Stewart; and one sister, Barbary Jean Stewart. Visitation will be today at Seale Funeral Home, Livingston, from 6 to 10 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the Rev. Tim Norris and the Rev. Wilton McMorris conducts the funeral at 11. Burial will be in Old Red Oak Cemetery, Livingston. Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, is in charge.
