"Tiny" Allen, 90, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Belle Maison Nursing Home, Ponchatoula. She was a native of St. Helena Parish. She was also a retired supervisor from the East Louisiana State Hospital. She was a past matron of the 158 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, a member of the United Daughters of the Conferderacy-Camp Moore, a member of the St. Helena Historical Association and a volunteer at the St. Helena Parish Nursing Home from the time it was established. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse B. Allen. Visitation will be today from 5 to 10 p.m. at Day's United Methodist Church, Liverpool, and Friday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 2 p.m. The Rev. Rand Guy and the Rev. She was a native of Husser and a cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Bahm; four brothers, Charles, Herman, Ivy and Andrew Brunett; two sisters, Barbera Husser and Agnes Brunett. Sister Mary Rosalyn, 90, was born Mary Teresa Di Modica (Demonica) in Hammond and served as a sister for 73 years. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans. After pronouncing her first vows on May 27, 1928, Sister Mary Rosalyn taught at St. Leo the Great and St. John the Baptist in New Orleans; Mater Dolorosa in Independence; St. Peter in Reserve; St. Agnes in Baton Rouge; Holy Ghost in Hammond; and St. Joan of Arc in Laplace. A native of Akron, Ohio, she was a longtime resident of Hammond. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and earned her master of social work at Louisiana State University. She was a lifelong social worker and a civil rights activist. She worked as a house parent for Boy's Home in Ohio, then as a VISTA volunteer in Lumpkin County, Ga., and as a paralegal for Georgia Legal Services for the indigent. She developed the first community homes for adults with mental retardation with the Tangipahoa Association for Retarded Citizens. After completing her master of social work degree, she was a medical social worker at North Oaks Hospice and later at North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital. Her interest in the field of social work led Spiller to become certified as a licensed clinical social worker for the state of Louisiana. She participated in education as a credentialed supervisor of master of social worker candidates as well as licensing of clinical social worker candidates. She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Beginning with her childhood Girl Scout experiences, Spiller was a self-taught naturalist and active in birding, backpacking and gardening. A graduate of the first Tangipahoa Master Gardener course, she worked extensively on the restoration of the historic Camellia Garden at the LSU AgCenter in Hammond, helping to ensure a lasting horticultural treasure for the community. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist church throughout her life and was a founding member, trustee and driving force in the establishment of the Hammond Unitarian Universalist Society. An avid reader, she was also the founder of Sylvia's Literary Society. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Edmund O. CHRISTINE CHUNN MORGAN PONCHATOULA - Christine Chunn Morgan, 89, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at North Oaks Medical Center. She was a native of Attala County, Miss. Survivors include four daughters, Catheryn Avara-McCurnin, Gonzales, Jeanette Avara Whittington, Arkansas, Mildred Avara Rolling, Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Jean Morgan Berteau, Ponchatoula; two sons, William Avara, Harahan, and Dean "Buddy" Morgan, Ponchatoula; four sisters; 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Avara; her second husband, William F. "Bill" Morgan; her parents, Maude Blalock Chunn and Robert E. Chunn; a daughter, Margie Avara; three brothers; a grandson and an infant great-grandson.
