WHITE LYNCHBURG, Va. - Zebulon Waters White, 85, of Lynchburg, Va., died Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Hospice in the Hills after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was the husband of Marjorie Belcher White. Born in Baltimore, on Oct. 3, 1915, he was the son of the late Madeline Shepard White and William Zebulon White. He spent his childhood in New London, Conn, where he attended the Buckley School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Dartmouth Outing Club. His master's degree was from the Yale University School of Forestry. Before moving to Lynchburg in 1999, he resided in Hammond, where he was a self- employed forestry consultant from 1972 until his retirement in 1990. From 1958 to 1972, he taught at Yale's School of Forestry. He was named Clifton R. Musser Professor of Industrial Forestry in 1961 and associate dean and director of professional studies in 1965. In addition to his classroom and administrative duties, he organized and led many student trips and special seminars. He was a forestry consultant for Pomeroy & McGowin in Monticello, Ark. from 1941 to 1958. During his career he was active in many civic and charitable organizations. An Eagle Scout as a youth, he served as Scoutmaster in Monticello, Ark and in Woodbridge, Conn. He chaired the school board in Monticello in the 1950s. He was a member of Rotary International in New Haven, Conn., and in Hammond. He was a Literacy Volunteer in Southeastern Louisiana and was a management volunteer as well as a tutor. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hammond. He served as secretary of the Yale Forest School Alumni Association and was a member and past president of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of New Haven and in Louisiana, and a past member of Dartmouth's national Alumni Council. He was a distinguished member of the Society of American Foresters. Survivors include a brother, George C.
